how Disney movies are different from Oringal stories (WIP)

Snow White:
Huntsman has bigger role in movies prior to Disney's Snow White.
Queen-originally birth mother Grimms changed it to Step-mother
Queen asks for Snow's liver and lungs and eat boar/deer liver and lungs think they're snow's.
Queen first tries to kill Snow with a corset and then with a comb. Finally one was the apple-but the apple piece isn't posioned like in the movie but somehow gets caught in Snow's throat-hence her not breath.
Snow is 7 years old vs. disney's 14-so litterally Grimms' Snow matures in the coffin
dwarves don't have personalities-obviously. But unlike what people think Disney isn't the first person to give the dwarves name
took a decade-1812-1912 for Snow to suffer the same fate as Cinderella
Queens dies because of wearing red-hot shoes for dancing at Snow's wedding
Pinocchio (1883)
*Carved of a pine tree. Pinocchio starts talking if I remember correctly when Geppato is carving the wood that will become Pinnicho
*Pinocchio is a very rude little boy-kind of like for instance Doug and Rob Ford or Toronto aka you're schoolyard bullies. He's nasty to everyone and it kinds of gets to him at the end (a lesson the Fords haven't learned).
*there is a talking cricket who gets killed by Pinocchio after a talking too. But he shows up as a ghost, then as a magic creature doctor and for some reason alive at the (supposed new end)
*Death=--the Fox and the Cat do catch Pinocchio once and hang him from a tree. That was originally suppose to be the end of the story- but public outcry of fans-like what would happen with Doyle and Sherlock later on- made the author return and bring the boy to life again.
Lampwick is a classmate of Pinnicho's who is the one to lure Pinocchio to Funland (Disney's Pleasure Island). All boys including Pinocchio go full donkey. But only after spending months at Funland
*FunLand's owner sells him to a cirus where helworks until he breaks his leg. Then is sold to a man who tries to drown him and use his skin for a drum.
*When underwater he is attacked by fish which 'eat' his skin
*geppato is arrested for trying to discipline Pinocchio but the townspeople thought it was child abuse.
*shark sallows Geppato and Pinocchio
*after his 'sacrifice' Pinocchio wakes up in a real boy's body-but his puppet form is like a husk-empty.

Historical note: the reason pool tables are consider bad? Is that in the past Pool tables were in dens where the crooks and maybe 'escort's would hang out.

Dumbo is an exception to the rule. It was based on a roll-a-book.
Most of the book is the same as within the movie. But crows and Timothy Mouse replace the Red Robin as Dumbo's alley and no magic feather either


Bambi
*is a roe tailed deer in the oringal story vs. white-tailed deer in movie
*birth no major deal as in the film
*goes to meadow a lot and meet "Aunt Edna" and cousins Faline and Gobo* (Twins) *Gobo is weak fawn
*more then one 'prince' stag-but the 'biggest' one is called The Great Prince
*all fawns start to be left alone more and more and eventually all fawns become deer version of latch-key kids. It's mating season
TGP calls him out for calling for his mom
*mothers do reappear but have their new 'relationship' through out the summer. It's because of this that a Prince stag is killed
*mother does get very neglectful during the matting season
*winter comes and deer come together for safety-Bambi meets four new deer-one an 'elderly' doe, a new-age doe, and two other Princes- Klaus and Rono (name of deer adult Bambi fights in the movie)
*Bambi, Faline and Netta-the old doe are the only survivors it seems of the illegal hunt. Gobo-who is weak disappered.
Old Doe looks after Faline and Bambi for rest of the winter
*spring comes around and Faline becomes shy around Bambi. And Klaus and Rono keep trying to chase him off. Bambi fights both of them-and wins. Bambi almost once gets caught by a hunter due to minic the sound of mating call--but TGP is able to interfere
*leaves after mating season to learn wisdom from TGP
*finds a young buck which is socailly inpet and awakard. Realizes it's Gobo who was taken home by the hunter and raised. The hunter later kills him
*hunter is much more dangerous in the book
TGP teaches Bambi tricks of how to stay alive and then after one last lesson he passes the torch on and goes off and goes to deer heaven.
book ends with the beginning of a new rutting season and Bambi, the new TGP calling out twin fawns for wanting their moms. One who Bambi thinks looks awfully like Faline

Adventures of Icbod and Mr. Toad (Sleepy Hallow/Wind in the Willows)
Wind in the Willows and Sleepy Hallow-close more or less to their original sources

Cinderella-is very simliar in comparison of Perrault's Cinderella or The Little Glass Slipper. Only difference is talking mice. And steps ripping the dress. But Cinderella has come a long way from the original Rhodpis story. A fair-skin slave in Ancient Egypt who loved to dance-so her master who saw her dancing once-when he was supposedly off napping-gave her a lovely set of shoes and once day the Pharoh was going to be in the market but Rhodpis couldn't go and a hawk came and got one of the slippers and the Pharaoh tried it on every maiden in the kingdom. Yen Shen the first known story where feet size plays a part in the story. Yen Shen's helper is a fish and then it's bones. (the step-mother killed it-and ate most of it). Yen's step-mother didn't want Yen Shen to go to spring festival because she was afraid that someone would choose Yen Shen instead of her own daughter (I assume that the step-sisters are older in most cases except for Disney's- then the titular character-I will explain in a historical note why in a bit). She goes with a gown from the fishes bones and leaves behind one golden slipper. Which eventually finds it' way into the hands of a King of island kingdom. He wanted to find the owner of the slipper he puts it in a pavilion where women came for miles around to try it on. Eventually the two marry after Yen Shen comes and almost leaves with the slipper but after provding the other slipper-they do marry. Perrault's version. Lord is presumably a nobility and after first wife dies. Then Lord dies leaving Cinderella in care of the step-mom. In some versions of Perrault's Cinderella-the step-family makes Cinderella be a servant even when the dad is still living (or is absent) while others do it after he's dead-which for Perrault is more common. Cinderella arranges marriages for her step-sisters to nobles-she has already forgiven them. The Grimms' Cinderella is kind of the last written down copy of Cinderella but in a sense it goes back to the original idea that the story was for commoners then Perrault's for nobility. Prince has three balls in the Grimms' version.

Historical note: I have reason to believe that with the exception of Disney's Cinderella that the step-sister(s) are older then the titular character since in the olden days there were sometimes rules that the younger ones couldn't get married till the older one did.

Alice-is a dream check, White Rabbit-check, March Hare/Mad Hatter-check, Queen of Hearts-check (most versions of the Queen of Hearts mix her with the Red Queen from Alice sequel). the Tweedles are from the sequel as is are the talking flowers.

Peter Pan-Peter wears leaves for clothing basically. Neverland's is child's imagination. Some might say it's a heaven for children. But there's down side to it. The Lost boys get taken in by the Darlings at the end of the story. But the basic of the story is everyone needs a mother- The dad need mothering by Mrs.Darling because of the bad scene at the bank earlier of Nana. Pirates in Neverland needed a mother as do the Lost Boys.

If you're taking suggestions, I think the Little Mermaid is pretty interesting for the differences. I've only read a bit about it, so you probably know a lot more.

I'm getting there Magpie-I'm kind of doing it in order of movie releases-its easier for me to organize it that way.

Lady and the Tramp-is based on two different sources. The Tramp comes from a story called "Happy Dan, the Whistling dog" by Ward Greene and the former Lady comes from one of Disney's animators Joe grant-it was inspired by is Springer Spaniel, Lady Nell II. In the Lady's case story- it's the Grandma and not Aunt who brings the Siamse twin cats and is blamed for trying to eat a canary which she was trying to save and later for trying to attack the baby-which she was in a sense a nanny too- but the Mister discovered that the cats had blue ribbion in their claws and the three of them (two cats and grandma were shown the door). The two of them Grant and Greene-wrote the Lady and the Tramp book together since before it could be a feature film it had to be available to the public for two years so audience could get to know the characters

Sleeping Beauty.
The first known version is called Tailia, Sun and Moon. In it its a prophcey not a curse which reads to Taila-the princess to sleep-like death due to splinter of flax. In time that does happen-and when she is still asleep she is raped by a king and has his twins kids-sun (male) and moon (female). it this twins who suck the flax out of Talia's finger. The King already had a wife who in this version is the villian. She tries to have the King eat his own off-spring and then almost kills Tailia via a fire-which ends up to be the Queen I's punishments. The Cook saved the children and his wife is the one who brought them when need to prove the cook's statement. In Perrault's this is where the curse comes from there are 12 fairies at the celebration of the Princess (namless) and the 8th fairy comes in (there weren't another golden cases for 8 fairies so the 8th one wasn't invited)- and as punishment-the curse is place but the 7th fairy been hiding behind a curtain the entire time and softens it too sleep. The princess grows up and of course falls into the sleep-but when Prince comes by after a hundred years-the end of the limation-and is able to get into the garden of the Sleeping Castle and the sleeping room-that's when Princess awakes-the kiss doesn't show up until the Grimms' version-Briar Rose. After awhile this Princess like Talia also has twins..but this time Prince's mom is the villian II who is an orge and tries to eat the twins (one of whom name is Aurore) and then the Princess but the cook saved them. The Grimms one is the one with only 12 plates and 13 being a bad number. Only difference between the two before it and this one is at the end of this one a kiss awakens the princess-called Briar Rose

101 Dalmatians
*Perdita isn't Pongo's wife- but Missus (his wife)'s wet nurse since Missus has 15 puppies
*Roger is a banker not a musican
*Cruella's coat made from Dalmatians was suppose to have fur of another animal on the inside which she was planning on wearing it inside out till the 'fuss died down'.
*the "1" on 101 Dalmatians is that of Perdita's love, Prince.

The Jungle Book
Mogli wants to leave the Jungle in the book. But he does't do so great in the village that I think he goes back to the Jungle
Redflower means 'fire'
Kaa is a good person-not the lunatic (no offense) snake he is-at one point he even becomes Mogli's mentor when gets too big for Baloo (who is the serious of the two animals in the book) and Bagerha

The Fox and the hound
book: all characters except for the Todd's master die (he's forced into a nursing home)
the country side becomes a city

The Black Cauldron-borrowed from two different books of the Prydian Chronicles series.
The Three Cauldrons is one of the two books-that was used to create the movie. Taran has magical sword. Princess Eliowney has magical history. And the 'bard' is a minor king of a minor kingdom. The Horn King comes from this book but he's not the villain in the Three Cauldrons someone named Arawn Death-Lord. The three witches are from the book of the same name as the movie-the Black Caludron-they gave said cauldron to the death-lord.

Basil, Great Mouse Dective
Basically any Sherlock Homles story-but there is an element (clock scene) of the fake death scene from "A Final Problem".
Oliver and Company
1830s with humans in England instead of the 1980s with animals in New York City
Fagin doesn't recuse anyone.

The Little Mermaid: All mer-people go to the sufarce when they are 15. The title character (who does't have a name) birthday comes so she gets to see it she sees a prince and falls in love. She learns that mer-people don't have souls unlike humans. She then goes to an unnamed sea witch who in exchange for legs takes the TLM's voice. But there's a side effect of having legs-every time she steps its like stepping on a thousand knives. (she has no tongue). But she needs to be married in order for her to get a soul. But he's engaged to a princess who happened to resemble the TLM and is at a temple learning where he was found on the shore. He sees the land princess and marries her and TLM's sisters come up and say that TLM need to kill the prince to become a mermaid again (in exchange for their hair). TLM couldn't do it. Before Anderson the TLM just dies after flinging herself off the ship. But after Anderson adapted the story she becomes 'daughter of air' who are let's just say doing a public service of sorts because of them being on probations for 300 years. Good children lower the years of probation but bad children-makes them cry and add an extra day to their probation.

Beauty and the Beast:
Beauty has siblings (number of siblings differ between versions from 2 sisters, to 5 siblings (3 brothers, 2 sisters). Dad was a merchant but 'lost his ships' at sea. So they went from rich to poor. When poor the two other sisters made Beauty do all the housework. One day there was word that a ship had returned so that dad went back and Beauty's sisters asked for expensive things but Beauty asked for a rose. Most of the ships' stuff was taken by debtors so Dad was returning with nothing. But came upon a castle with no servants but magic table with food on it. The next day as he went to leave he notice roses and goes to take one when the Beast (who mostly looks like a lion in all version but Disney's) confronts him and exchange for the rose one of his daughters must come and live with the Beast. Beauty is the only one who does. Each night at supper the Beast asks if Beauty would marry him. But Beauty has dreams about a prince who says not to trust apparances. Eventally Beauty grews lonley and asks to visit her family she is allowed to do so and takes a mirror and ring (which took her to the family and back again) for a couple of days but she was suppose to be back by day 3 but she doesn't do so. When she finally does so she founds the Beast dying underneath a rose bush. She finally agrees to marry him. (In some versions Beauty is a long-lost princess of an unknown kingdom who was raised as a merchant's daughter). Some versions of Beauty have Beauty's sisters become statues forever.

Aladdin:
*two magic items-ring and lamp
*unlimited wishes
*characters are Chinese, not from the country of India.
*magican and vizer are two different people
*Magican fools the princess after Alladin and the princess are wed by a peddler's cloak and 'new lamps for old!" (Princess is dumb)
*Aladdin with the lesser genie is transport to the palace (which Aladdin had built with the powerful genie's help) and kills the magican. The magican brother's try to revenge but it doesn't work.

the Lion King
Most likely to be based of Hamlet just without all the deaths at the end.

Pocchantas
basically an adaption of John Smith's story that was written 7 years or so after the supposed events.

Huncback of Notre Dame
Phobeus is a rich bigot (and is engaged to someone else) who only wants to use (12 year old Esmeralda) as an 'escort'. Frollo is actually is an archdeacon which is why he has trouble with lusting after Esmerlda.
Esmerlda does get married to some poet person.
Quasmodio, Frollo and Esmerlda all die.

(I'm doing it in order of movie release year-Mulan's going to be after Hercules).

Hercules is a big one. In the mythology Hera is Herc's step-mom since Zeus is known to be a 'womaniser' (Mambo number 5 would be perfect for the real Zeus) and Zeus pretended to be Alcmena's husband, Amphitryon. (Herc's step-father to be?). Narcissus is not on Olympus but in the Underworld. Pegasus has nothing to do with Hercules but has to do with Persus and Bellaprhon. The Titans in the pit are actually Herc's great-family (since they are his dad's aunts and uncles) in the myth.

Mulan:
( there are at least 5 different legends of Mulan)
has a little brother who would have inherited the property if the dad had gone. Sometimes she has a litte sister too.
her 'friends' in the army didn't know she was a woman until after she returned home (and the army was fine with it)
she has knowledge of martial arts and military weapon and her dad taught her from a young age
she doesn't run off but does try to ask permission to do it. Her mom is only concered about her loosing her (think of what Jeus' mom is called)
villain Leopard Skin, is someone who is trying to upsuper the Emporer's throne. In another legend it's Huns.

Ping in the story is the name of the general who tasks Mulan (known as Hu) with cutting through the battle and capturing Skin.
As soon as Mulan goes home she is married off to her next door neighbour or she marries an army officer

Mush comes from a 1903 play and the name comes from Mulan's male cousin who is a 'blow hard' someone who talks the talk but doesn't do the walk. He wants to fight the Huns but when he is giving a conscrption notice he begs Mulan's father not to send him. That's what Mulan's alias is in this version.

In the version where Leopard skin is from let's just say we have a Shakespearian moment. (Leopard) has a younger sister who falls in love with male Mulan and betrays her brother in order to marry male Mulan. the closet thing to Shang (except for the fact Mulan is his officer not the other way around) is Liu Yuandu.

There's a guy called Milary commander in the 1903 play (In Disney's the enuch plays this role) and the invaders are bribing him to get into the way of nothing being done about the invaders.

Tarzan:
Tarzan's true last name is Clayton. He is the rightful heir of the Greystroke. But his parents got marooned in Africa by mutineers. Mom died of natural causes and dad got killed by the leader of the apes. Jane and her dad aren't there to study but like Tarzan's real parents are marooned. Oh and Jane and her dad are from the U.S. not UK (Tarzan's parents are from the UK) and when Jane leaves Tarzan leaves in order to find her and they get married in NYC but after they have a son they return to Africa. Tarzan's cousin took over his uncle's estate after they never came back.

I'm a little surprised that Disney never did a movie about Tarzan's kid when they were quite happy to make one up for the Little Mermaid 2. Also, I remember seeing a couple of stage performances of Peter Pan and most of them have the lost boys being adopted by the Darlings (my favourite ending basically)

I think i prefer the shrek versions of fable characters XD

Actually Emperor's New Grove is I believe partly based on the story called "Emperor New Clothes" only set in Aztec times.

@Peter_Dan Only in the pre-Anderson TLM does TLM turn into sea form. For Post-Anderson-see above the rest of it is the same as me. Cinderella 2 big boo-boos here. One, the Grimms' Cinderella isn't the "Original" Cinderella, technically Rhodpis (Egyptian) and Yen-Shen (Chinese) are. 2..the slipper in the Grimms' version isn't glass slipper-most versions have it be a golden one I believe Yen-shen and The Grimms' are 2 which have it be golden. But disney's is based on the Perrault's version so techinally it shouldn't be included in this version. Snow White: Actually, in the first edition of the "Children and Household" book, its was Snow's biological mother (same with Hansel and Gretel)-but other stuff is correct (note when she ate the apple she's 7 she 'grew up in the casket) also she ate the suppose liver and heart of Snow's. Rapunzel-correct and also in same edition as above of Snow, Hansel&Gretel- Rapunzel gets pregnant and bears twins. Sleeping Beauty-had twins too (asleep). Grimms' did the adding of the huntmans. Perrault didn't have him (and also had Red eat her grandma). The Three Little Pig-correct. Beauty and the Beast=correct


regarding twins: people thought back then the multiplies meant the mother had woohoo with several men.
