So the game runs great overall. I bought it via direct download, but that should not matter. I cannot engage the console command to enter any of the codes.
I would be fine playing through normally, but half of what I love about this game is being able to build ridiculously large houses. I want to play with these tools without having to worry about starting a family so that the second generation can be a millionaire!

    Please advise:
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Have you found a workaround?
Do you know where in the game files I can go to put the console command mechanic in the game?

    Please help

Alrighty, let's fix this. Here's a few things you can try. One of these will most certainly fix this issue. Remember, make sure The Sims 4 is closed when you perform these steps. You will need to open the game AFTER you perform these steps.

    1. Check to see if you have any other programs running that may use the same shortcut that could be interfering and close them if you can. Also open task manager, and search for a process called 'skitch' if you find it, close it. If not move onto the next step.

    2. Open Origin and on the menu at the top click on Origin > Application Settings > Origin In Game - And make sure it's enabled for Supported games only. Now go onto your Origin library, right click the The Sims 4 and click 'Repair Game'

    3. If the above doesn't work, try and restart your pc.

Check and see if those steps help fix your problem. They should.

k, attempting restart now. Everything in origin was checked and looked like it should. I ran the repair anyway. No love.
I have closed down everything on my system besides the bare bones, also no love.

And this is the second installation for me. I wiped the game and reinstalled today. No love. Attempting to restart now. Will post to let you know.

Thank you regardless though, it's nice to actually be doing something about this, despite the lack of results. ;) I appreciate you time Chris

gah. Does Ctrl-Shift-C usually work outside of the game when copying files/text etc?

I did some digging and found these messages posted on some other site. Might be worth a try:

Chris, thank you so much. It was the windows key. :/ It's odd because I have a function key on my keyboard, but that wasn't working.

I really appreciate the help. In trying to find a solution to this problem I found this site. Very appreciative.

I'm having the same issue and none of these methods worked for me. I'm using an Acer. I'm sure it's worked before... Please help!

    Thanks!

Ok this happens to me and I know what the problem is...
What happens is at some point the game starts recognizing you typing in that command as a prompt for another computer program (developer tools).
The only way to stop it, is to save and exit your game, and then start it back up again.
It's annoying, but it's not a huge deal.

I find it happens when/if you're toggling between the game and an internet browser.
